Family History

The work on our Family History started out as a joint effort between my wife and myself. Back in February 2005, having toyed with Turner Edgeler about 1890 the idea for several years, I decided to try out a copy of Family Tree Maker which was on a cover disc from PC Plus magazine. I started with details of about 40 relatives on my side of the family and my wife then came up with about 100 of her relatives!

I eventually put on a proper page about our families on this website on 12th January 2006. At that time we had found information about 8 generations, 370 individuals, 113 marriages, 112 surnames, the average age was 65 years 4 months, earliest birth date was about 1815 and the largest family had 13 children.

The day after I posted the updated page a cousin left a message on my Feedback page and the day after that I had an email from another cousin at the other end of the country. Before then I hadn't known that they existed. Within 2 weeks a third cousin had set up a private website and Forum so that we could pool our resources. It was breathtaking how quickly it all happened.

There are now over 50 of us working together including members from New Zealand, Australia, U.S.A. Canada, Spain, Germany and Sweden as well as the U.K. At the last count tree has 2936 individuals, 662 surnames, 961 families, the earliest birth of a linked member of the family was 1672 and the earliest death was 1735. In addition we have a lot of data going back to about 1537 which we still have to link in.

Back in the 17th and 18th centuries the Edgeler family was mainly based around Elstead in Surrey and Gravesend in Kent.

Now they are spread around quite a bit but with a large group in Plymouth and another in Essex as well as the New Zealand group.

Any Questions?

If you have any questions about our extended family, or about family history research in general, then email me here. I will always try to help.

Are You Related?

If your name is EDGELER then you are definitely related and we would love to hear from you.

If your name is Edgeller, Edgerler or Edgler then you probably are related and again we would love to hear from you.

If your name is Peckham, Burton, Bright, Sutherland, Webster, Markham or White then you could be related.

If your name is Edgeley then you probably are not related. Apparently that name comes from around Alderley Edge in Cheshire.

Want to Know More?

If you want to know more then go to the Forum at www.edgeler.me.uk (run by Robert Edgeler) and post a message and we will get back to you ASAP.

Alternatively you can email me here.

Because it is a private website for members of the family we will want to know a bit about your possible connections before you get full access but it will be worth it I promise you.
