Hello again. This is my fishing page.
I first started fishing back in about 1960 when I belonged to the Epsom Angling Society but as is the way of such things, I lost interest after a few years.
I started fishing again whilst on holiday in Spain when I bought a rod and reel and a bit of tackle and fished off a harbour breakwater with enough success that, when we got back home, I realised what I had been missing for so many years.
I soon joined Southwark Fisheries & Preservation Society which mostly fished matches in the Greenland Dock at Rotherhithe in South East London. Unfortunately this club no longer functions.
I also joined another angling club which prefers to remain anonymous and which has about 25 waters mostly in Sussex. The waters are first class with many lakes and miles of river providing good pleasure fishing for members. It was on one of their waters that I had my first 100+lb catch.
After a pretty uneventful visit in 2005 I wasn't sure what to expect in 2006. All I knew was that I was determined to catch a barbel from the river. I had a few small ones out during the week but nothing very exciting happened for me until the last day when I fished a local stretch of the river which only a couple of days earlier hadn't produced a bite. Everybody else had decided to go to one of the local commercial fisheries so I had the place to myself. Boy did I have some fun!
I caught 8 barbel from 3 lbs up to 10 lbs. There is a photo of me with one of 4-8-0 at the top of the page and on the left is the 10 pounder. Inevitably there was nobody around to take a photo of me holding it, so you will have to take my word for it that it was 30 inches long. I was like a dog with 2 tails and bored everybody with it for weeks afterwards. I even blew the photo up to lifesize and carried it around in the car with me!
Lee Green A.C.
Most of my match fishing for a few years was done as a member of Lee Green Angling Club. LGAC is a small club which primarily fishes good day ticket waters in Sussex, Kent and Essex every second Sunday from March to December. Total match weight caught in 2007 was over 10,200 lbs with an average of about 11 anglers on each outing. Three of us caught over 1,000 lbs. Pretty good going by any standards. Bob Nudd MBE - 4 Times World Fishing Champion
Valentine's Day 2007 is a day that I shall never forget. For my birthday present my wife and son had given me the treat of my life. A days fishing with Bob Nudd MBE and 4 times World Fishing Champion!
For a fishaholic like me there can be no better day. I wont bore you with the details here but if you are interested click on the picture on the left to see some more pictures of our day out. Suffice to say that as a result of that day my fishing improved no end. In 2007 I came third in the Lee Green AC Championship, won the Pairs Championship with Mark Beard, won 2 matches and 2 other trophies.
Brilliant days out with one of the nicest people I have ever met. A true gent.
